Tequila Town Loves Voodoo Tiki Reposado

Tequila Town Loves Voodoo Tiki Reposado

As I swirl my glass I’m seeing gorgeous thick legs that are slow to form and slow to tear. There is a wonderfully sweet nose to this tequila, with hints of vanilla and wood. Mixed in to it all are very clear herb and citrus aromas with a mild agave aroma that is always present.

Christmas comes but once a year, well in December of last year it came twice for me. I returned home from work one evening to find a parcel from Voodoo Tiki Tequila on my doorstep with a bottle of their reposado in it. I’d been itching to try this for ages as I do love an over the top bottle. C’mon it’s got a Tiki idol in it, how can you not want to try it?! After a short battle with the wax seal that blocks the agave juice from escaping, the review was underway.

Review Notes

I guess we should really start with the bottle for this review, it actually takes seven people to make each individual Voodoo Tiki bottle from start to finish.  Master Glass Artesan, Alehandro Nuramo is responsible for the Tiki idol in the bottle and considers each creation as one of his children. Additionally you’ll find ‘Magic Words’ etched on to your bottle. There are hundreds of words to entice people to collect these most artistic of bottles. You can of course learn more about the bottles, and just about all thinks Tiki, from the Voodoo Tiki Tequila website.

Anyway, on to the juice. First and foremost you’ve got to get the damn top off the bottle. I opted for my patented ‘Brute Force & Ignorance’ approach and brashly twisted the top, breaking the wax seal, freeing the tequila from it’s Tiki tomb. Perhaps you might want to get a knife out to aid things, but when there’s tequila to be had sometimes you’ve just got to go for it.

Voodoo Tiki is a light reposado, when compared to other tequilas of this  age group.

The first taste in the mouth is agave and then pepper. There’s no mistaking what you’re drinking here, that agave is unbelievably present. As the agave gives way I’m tasting chocolate, Oak and there’s a very clear brandy taste going on. Voodoo Tiki Reposado is actually aged for a minimum of six months in sweet brandy barrels, so it’s not surprising at all that notes of brandy are evident in this tequila. The aftertaste is most pleasant indeed and just ever so slightly hot. As I allow my taste buds to relax I can feel the astringency of this tequila on my tongue and mixed in with it all is the feeling of hot white pepper right on the middle of my tongue that keeps on going and going…and going.

All novelty aspects aside, this is a great tequila for any collection. Bring in those novelty aspects and it’s quite simply a must for any collector to have on his shelf. Ever since having this bottle in the house just about everyone who comes in gravitates towards it. My only challenge now is to get out there and locate the other two bottles from this brand. No, not for the ‘Magic Words’ but to free the ‘Magic Juice’ from it’s Tiki tomb once again.

¡Salud y’all!
