What is the origin of the name of Mexico’s most well-known drink? Just like the historical past of the margarita, and the mystical properties and reaction to the tequila itself, the answer is unquestionably clouded in mystery.

One record has the word tequila believed to derive from the indigenous group of ticuilas who some time past lived near the hillside of a volcano of the same name positioned close to the city of Tequila. The dead volcano Tetilla is located in the town of Tequila, nevertheless the name of the volcano predates the name of the town. Tequila, before it attained it’s widely recognized name was just a simple Pre-Hispanic town, located 34 miles northeast of Guadalajara. Currently it has a population of 30,000. The prominent hill of Tequila, the extinct volcano, is still known as the “Tetilla.” It has a height of three thousand meters.

Several belief patterns link the origin to the Nahautl language, though diverge from that point since there are three diverse translations of the tongue. Many enthusiasts maintain tequila comes from the ancient Nahautl translated to “the rock that cuts.” One group, cites the phrase to have the interpretation to be “The place of harvesting plants”. Yet other subscribers to the lost vocabulary principles have an additional possible language translation. They believe it implies “work” or “employment”, and the portion “Tlan”, means “Place”. Hence, tequila could translate to “Place in which labor or work is done”. So while there is popular opinion on the label originating from a lost language amongst these followers, the interpretation is still clouded in mystery.

Certainly many individuals are convinced the name of the liquor was extracted from the name of the town of Tequila in which it is created. Tequila’s namesake town is within the state of Jalisco where all manufacturing of tequila occurs. But there is disagreement in whether the name of the town predates the name of the spirit. The eldest, the Tequila-Amatitán vicinity that contains the Amatitán village, developed at the end of the seventeenth century. The 2nd district, the Jalisco Highlands, showed up in the last decade of the 19th century. The first tequila production process with a professional intent was started within the city of Tequila around the end of the Eighteenth century. The chief end users were in the mining zones found in the state of Jalisco. Almost all of Tequila’s thirty-five thousand inhabitants work in the distilleries, on the agave farms, or in the rising amount of tourist stores encouraging the industry. Tequila’s reliance on tequila production and trade extends back to the Spanish conquest.

In the deficiency of more significant specifics, the greater part of potential clients stand by tequila is given its name after the town of Tequila. Just like Cognac holds the name of the French town of its beginning. For most, the Town of Tequila has provided its title to Mexico’s most recognized spirit It has been claimed that the Tequila indigenous group of Amatitlan, Jalisco were the 1st to create the beverage we currently call Tequila.

In today’s times, the identity, “Tequila” is covered by the Mexican Law of Industrial Protection, and in compliance with the rulings released by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Tequila may only be made in 5 states of Mexico: Jalisco, Guanajuato, Nayarit, Tamaulipas and Michoacan.

Gummi Bears (also spelled as Gummy Bear) originated in Germany, where the happy yet soon to be devoured bears are popularly called Gummibär. Hans Riegel Sr., a candy maker from Bonn, started the Haribo company in 1920. In 1922, he invented the Dancing Bear, a fruit-flavored gum made in the shape of a bear. The success of the Dancing Bear’s successor would later become Haribo’s world-famous Gold-Bears candy product in 1967. Then another company, Trolli jumped on the gummy bandwagon in 1981 and was the first to introduce gummi worms in 1981. The popularity has resulted in a cornucopia of items for Mixologists to build creative cocktails around such as rings, worms, frogs, snakes, hamburgers, cherries, sharks, penguins, hippos, lobsters, octopuses, apples, peaches, oranges, and even Ampelmännchen, Smurfs and spiders.

Haribo Gummi Bears (Our favorite) come in five flavors. Raspberry (red), orange (orange), strawberry (green), pineapple (clear), and lemon (yellow). Gummi Bears are insanely popular. They are even one of the few types of candy to have been turned into a television show, and now an amazing party cocktail.

Gummi Bear Margarita

1.5 oz Voodoo Tiki Blue Dragon Blue Raspberry and Kiwi Infused Tequila

1 oz Watermelon Pucker

.5 oz Triple Sec

1 oz Sour Mix

1 oz Cranberry Juice

Dash of Grenadine

Rim: Sugar or Cinnamon

Serve: Up Rocks Frozen

Garnish: Gummi Bears Mixed in the Glass.

I know you’re here for some great margarita recipes, not an episode of “How It’s Made”, but gumballs have an interesting life before dying an awful death in the mouth of a sugar craving eight year old. Flavored gum is made into a long cylinder, cut into small cylinders, and run through a specialized machine to form hollow balls. The gumballs are then stored for several hours below60 degrees to harden. Once hard, the gumballs are put into huge kettles where they are coated with a flavored and colored sucrose solution, similar to how jelly beans are coated. After several hours tossing in the machine, the coated balls are dried with hot air and rolled in beeswax or other wax. This final step helps make gumballs shiny and water-repellent, making them the perfect confection to be dispensed from a gumball machine. Sadly, then it’s off to death row. But if you’re a gumball, and you’re numbers up, drowning in this delicious Candy Cocktail is the death equivalent of a heart attack in bed ( . . .and not while sleeping.)

What was with that weird looking living bottle cap with feet on the wrapper? Currently by Nestlé under their Willy Wonka Candy Company brand, Bottle Caps are tart tablet candies made to look like metal soda bottle caps in grape, cola, orange, root beer, and cherry flavors. Cherry replaced the “Lemon Lime” flavor from the 80s packs. Also today bottle caps are a bit smaller than old school – go figure, progress. Bottle Caps have a sweet but slightly sour taste to them, coincidentally like the classic Margarita, which makes this the perfect candy compliment in this retro fun Candy Bar Cocktail.

A box of Bottle Caps can be found in the Survival Horror video game Dino Crisis by checking Regina’s lighter 50 times. This will produce a “kill me” which will transform into a box of Bottle Caps an hour later.

A shooter known as the “Bottle Cap”, which tastes similar to the candy, can be made using lime juice, citrus soda, root beer Schnapps, and raspberry liqueur or Amaretto. The liqueurs are combined in a shot glass, which is then dropped into a larger glass containing the soda and lime juice. The entire concoction is then drunk together.

The most common barrel used for aging anejo tequila is usually an American oak whiskey barrel, with casks via whiskey companies generating anejo tequila on a regular basis. The wood imparts a smoothness to the tequila, and also infusing the anejo tequila together with the wood oils. These interact with the anejo tequila to produce different flavors and choices beyond the customary agave.

American oak barrels, a Voodoo Tiki Tequila favorite, usually turn out the sweetest final result. Together with the sweetness of highland agave hints of vanilla, butterscotch, and caramel will be noticed. The sweetness of American oak sometimes yields a complex and outstanding mix of results. Evidently one of the best regarded and popularly accepted selections for maturing anejo tequila.

Are all tequila drums French or American? No, Canadian oak barrels are utilized far more often every year. Corazon tequila famously advertises their utilization of Canadian casks. The Canadian oak is most commonly a Canadian whiskey barrel, and conveys the anejo tequila a golden brownish color, and features a mild sweetness and earthy nose. Depending upon the agave quality, an anejo tequila aged in Canadian whiskey barrels will deliver anejo tequila nominal scents of fruit and spice, and flavors of differing levels of mellow sweetness and soft fruits, floral, as well as light vanillas.
